All Saints’ welcomes Mparntwe Declaration

Coeducation is education for life. Naturally

A “time of rapid social and technological change, and complex environmental, social and economic challenges”, characterised by “personalised learning”.

Alice Springs education

Late last year the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration was endorsed by all education ministers as our nation’s vision for education in Australia and its commitment to improving educational outcomes for young Australians.

Mparntwe (pronounced M-ban tua) is the Arrernte name for Alice Springs and sets out two goals for the education system nationally:

Goal 1: The Australian education system promotes excellence and equity;

Goal 2: All young Australians become confident and creative individuals, successful lifelong learners, and active and informed members of the community.

Of particular interest to the All Saints’ community is Mparntwe’s emphasis on the need to prepare our young people for a “time of rapid social and technological change, and complex environmental, social and economic challenges” along with the promotion of “personalised learning”– already two strong areas of focus at the College.

Further to this, the document acknowledges the need for future workforce skills of collaboration, creativity and problem-solving, along with the social and emotional skills of empathy, honesty and respect to help students “understand their responsibilities as global citizens and know how to affect positive change”.

These areas of focus for state and federal governments are already well-integrated into All Saints’ programs such as InnovatED, Runway, Propeller and HotHouse Company, overseen by Djoowak: The Beyond Boundaries Institute, and instilled through our values of Empathy, Respect, Integrity and Courage (ERIC).

All Saints’ College is pleased to see this national shift towards these focus areas which we know to be some of the essential skills needed to equip our young people so they know what to do when they don’t know what to do’ and to fulfil the College’s Vision of Making a Positive Difference in our World.
